What does it mean to be addicted? Usually when we are addicted, whatever the addiction is becomes most important in our lives. The addiction can interfere in our every day lives, causing a disruption in our "normal" functioning. We can lose friends, partners, family members and jobs due to addiction. If you become aware of something in your life becoming more important than anything else, and you are missing out on things that used to be important to you, it is time to take a look at possible addiction.

Under this heading of addiction you will find several types of addiction and it is not an exhaustive list.

1. a connection, association, or involvement.

2. connection between persons by blood or marriage; kinship.

3. an emotional or other connection between people.

4. a romantic or sexual involvement.

There are many types of relationships as the above definition says. Friendships, work relationships, boyfriend/girlfriend, marriage and partnership relationships, which could be considered romantic relationships. We work on all types of relationships, but we will focus on romantic relationships on here. There are many issues that come up with romantic relationships and we will look at several.

Bereavement is a normal response for us to be sad when we lose someone. Bereavement is the period of sadness and loneliness that we experience when we lose a loved one. When we experience bereavement, we are trying to adjust to the loss. We typically associate the feelings of loss during bereavement with the death of a loved one. However, the loss can be due to other factors. For example, it is possible for someone to experience bereavement as a result of losing a spouse in a divorce. It is also possible for children to experience bereavement when their best friend moves away to another state. (Education Portal)

Anxiety is a general term for several disorders that cause nervousness, fear, apprehension, and worrying. These disorders affect how we feel and behave, and they can manifest real physical symptoms. Mild anxiety is vague and unsettling, while severe anxiety can be extremely debilitating, having a serious impact on daily life.

People often experience a general state of worry or fear before confronting something challenging such as a test, examination, recital, or interview. These feelings are easily justified and considered normal. Anxiety is considered a problem when symptoms interfere with a person's ability to sleep or otherwise function. Generally speaking, anxiety occurs when a reaction is out of proportion with what might be normally expected in a situation. (MNT Knowledge Center)

There are many kinds of families. Some have two parents, while others have a single parent. Sometimes there is no parent and grandparents raise grandchildren. Some children live in foster families, adoptive families, stepfamilies or same sex parents.

Families are much more than groups of people who share the same genes or the same address. They should be a source of love and support. This does not mean that everyone gets along all the time. Conflicts are a part of family life. Many things can lead to conflict, such as illness, disability, addiction, job loss, school problems, and marital issues. Listening to each other and working to resolve conflicts are important in strengthening the family.

Most people have felt sad or depressed at times. Feeling depressed can be a normal reaction to loss, life's struggles, or an injured self-esteem.

But when feelings of intense sadness -- including feeling helpless, hopeless, and worthless -- last for many days to weeks and keep you from functioning normally, your depression may be something more than sadness. It may very well be clinical depression -- a treatable ...condition. (WebMD)

Most people's thoughts and feelings about themselves fluctuate somewhat based on their daily experiences. The grade you get on an exam, how your friends treat you, ups and downs in a romantic relationship can all have a temporary impact on how you feel about yourself.

Your self-esteem, however, is something more fundamental than the normal ups and downs associated with situational changes. For people with good self-esteem, normal ups and downs may lead to temporary fluctuations in how they feel about themselves, but only to a limited extent. In contrast, for people with poor self-esteem, these ups and downs drastically impact the way they see themselves. (UT counselling and mental health center)

Parenting can be the most stressful—and rewarding—job of your life. We can all think of ways we'd do things differently from our parents, and no doubt your kids will find ways they'll parent differently from you.

How much does parenting really matter? Which factors influence your kids more than others? And how can you best cooperate with others—teachers, spouses, family—for the well-being of your children? (Psychology Today)

Being a parent is also the most important job you will ever have.

  • Bullying is when someone is repeatedly picked on or treated unfairly by another person or group of people. It usually involves emotional or physical harm and may happen in school, in youth groups, in the home or over the internet.
  • Bullying often happens when adults aren’t around, but can just as easily happen when they are. The adults may simply not know what is going on because it is kept hidden.
  • Sometimes adults can bully young people or children. This is very difficult, because we expect adults to be fair but, unfortunately, some adults are not.(Barnardos)
